Gordon, Neb. — A Gordon teen was sentenced Thursday for the death of her newborn baby in November of 2023.
18-year-old Chloe Coplen-Anderson was sentenced to 35 to 60 years in prison for second-degree murder. She was given 533 days credit for time already served.
Coplen-Anderson pleaded no contest to the charge in August last year in Sheridan County District Court as part of a plea agreement.
Her plea resulted in prosecutors dropping one count of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and one count of intentional child abuse resulting in death and the first-degree murder charge was lowered to second-degree murder.
The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office said Coplen-Anderson was 16 when she gave birth to the baby in her bedroom on Nov. 13, 2023, unknown to her parents, and immediately after retrieved a knife from the kitchen and killed the newborn baby.
The Gordon Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office were involved in this case’s investigation, arrest, and prosecution.
