BROKEN BOW — A central Nebraska emergency manager is being recognized at the state level for his leadership and service across a demanding year of incidents.
Outgoing Nebraska Association of Emergency Management President Amanda Burki announced that Mark Rempe has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 NAEM President’s Award, an honor given to up to three individuals annually at the discretion of the organization’s president.
Burki said Rempe stood out for his ability to consistently take on complex challenges while managing a wide range of all-hazards incidents within his communities. Over the past year, she noted, Rempe handled multiple situations simultaneously, often taking on more responsibility than many would choose,while continuing to move operations forward during critical moments.
In addition to his work in emergency response, Rempe was recognized for stepping into new leadership roles and advocating for stronger collaboration and representation in decision-making processes. Burki highlighted his efforts to “earn a seat at the table” and help guide meaningful improvements within emergency management systems.
His impact extended beyond immediate response efforts. According to Burki, Rempe has used each incident as an opportunity to strengthen local programs, increase public awareness, and advance mitigation strategies aimed at reducing future risk.
For those contributions, Burki selected Rempe for the President’s Award for exemplary service to both his county and the Nebraska Association of Emergency Management in 2026.
