York, Neb. — What started out as a typical evening on Interstate 80 lead to a road rage incident near York and a truck driver in jail.
Just before 7:30 p.m., deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported road rage incident on Interstate 80 near mile marker 353, at the I-80/U.S. Highway 81 interchange. The reporting party advised that a semi-truck driver had brandished a firearm and pointed it at his adult son, who was also inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. Deputies quickly located the semi-truck described and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, deputies obtained and executed a search warrant on the semi-truck. A loaded firearm matching the description provided by the victim was located inside the cab of the semi-truck.
Further investigation revealed that the driver admitted to watching television, specifically the show “Naruto,” while operating the semi-truck at the time of the incident as well.
The driver was identified as 42-year-old Rahmel McLaughlin of Gastonia, North Carolina. McLaughlin was arrested and lodged at the York County Detention Center on charges including: Use of a firearm to commit a felony; terroristic threats and watching television while driving.
