Stockville, Neb. — The 2026 Frontier County Sheriff race is a contested Republican primary between incumbent Sheriff Michael Jordan and challenger Dwayne Wilson Jr.
The primary election is scheduled for May 12. Jordan was appointed in May 2024, and Wilson is a former Frontier County Sheriff’s Deputy currently working for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Jordan outlined his goals and objectives going into the election….
Jordan: “One of our big things is we want to bring the DARE program back into the three schools here in Frontier County. I think that’s important. We just want to keep building those external relationships with the schools and the community as a whole. And then we just want to keep our staffing numbers, we’re fully staffed and we want to keep it that way. And that’s kind of our biggest goals going into the next few years here.”
Dwayne Wilson Jr. lays out his goals and objectives for the sheriff’s office…
Wilson: “My first is just visibility and community trust. People should know their sheriff, see them in towns, feel comfortable approaching them, and not just the sheriff but also just the deputies that work inside the office of just being seen and building that trust in the community. My second one is just transparency and accountability, making sure that the community knows what’s going on inside the sheriff’s office, know the different calls that we’re dealing with, knowing if we’re working a grant, extra enforcement, just being sure that there has some transparency from the sheriff’s office.”
Wilson’s third goal is public safety through preparedness training for the local communities and fourth is to support the deputies through training and leadership and make sure they have the resources they need to do the job.
From a size perspective, Frontier County covers approximately 1,000 square miles and is patrolled by five deputies.
In 2024, Frontier County had 1,840 registered voters including 1,430 Republicans, 167 Democrats, 10 Libertarian, 6 Legal Marijuana NOW and 227 Independents.
The primary winner will likely secure the office, as Frontier County traditionally leans Republican and no other major-party candidates have filed for the general election.
