The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is moving forward with a multi‑year initiative to replace and modernize several interstate rest areas along the I‑80 corridor. The project will deliver new, approximately 2,300‑square‑foot facilities at locations near Brady, Kearney, Grand Island and Goehner, serving both eastbound and westbound traffic. Each site will include updated men’s, women’s and family restrooms, office space for the state tourism department, and new mechanical, electrical and storage areas, along with full site improvements. Construction will be coordinated with ongoing interstate reconstruction and phased over several years.
NDOT will select a consultant to handle planning, design, bidding and construction administration under state capital facilities procedures. The work will proceed in three phases, beginning with conceptual design and cost estimates, followed by detailed architectural and engineering documents and competitive bidding, and concluding with construction oversight and project close‑out.
