Meadow Grove, Neb. — A double-fatality accident occurred shortly before 4:20 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 275 and 541st Avenue, 2 miles east of Meadow Grove, in Madison County.
An investigation determined that a 2018 Honda Odyssey was westbound on Highway 275, when it crossed the center line, causing a head-on collision with an eastbound 2026 Peterbilt Tractor Truck hauling an empty tank trailer.
Following the impact, the Honda, driven by 51-year-old Lynn Phelps of Hastings, Oklahoma, spun around and came to rest facing east in the westbound lane. Both she and the passenger of the Honda Odyssey, 51 year old Robert Phelps of Hastings, were pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin were notified.
The Peterbilt, driven by 71-year-old Michael Klasna of Emmet, Nebraska came to rest facing east in a field south of the highway. Klasna was transported to Faith Health to be treated for injuries.
Seatbelts were worn by everyone involved in the accident.
Agencies that responded to the scene were the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Meadow Grove Fire and Rescue, and Battle Creek Fire and Rescue.
The Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the crash.
