Weekend of Music, Food and Fun Near Cozad
COZAD, Neb. — Texas independent country music star Aaron Watson is coming to Cozad next month, and if you want to have a good time while raising money for cancer research don’t miss the Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska.
Set for June 5–6, the Cattlemen’s Ball blends live concerts, the best beef meals, and all‑day entertainment into what organizers describe as a “can’t‑miss weekend,” all while raising money for the Fred and Pamela Buffet Cancer Center and local wellness efforts. Tickets are on sale through May 15.
Saturday night will feature headliner Aaron Watson, known for his high‑energy shows and hits such as “Freight Train” and “Outta Style.” After he wraps up, Borderline will provide late-night entertainment.
Gunnar Latham, a Texas‑based artist with strong ranching and rodeo roots, will kick off the weekend as the Friday night entertainment.
“This is one of those weekends people talk about all summer,” said host Bobbie Jo Messersmith, noting the pasture views will provide a unique backdrop for the event. “If it’s on your list, now is the time to get your tickets and make a plan.”
Beyond the concert stage, the weekend offers a packed schedule that includes a western style show, art and vendor tents, live and silent auctions, a golf outing, a 5K run, and multiple dining experiences centered around Nebraska beef.
Cancer awareness and education will be a major focus, including on‑site screenings and information provided by medical partners.
“Cancer used to be a death sentence. It isn’t anymore,” Messersmith said. “That’s because of research, early detection, and access to care, and Nebraska has that right here.”
They hope to raise millions of dollars while creating lasting memories. The event draws thousands of people from across the region each year.
“I hope people learn something, love something, and leave something—whether that’s a memory, a lesson, or a contribution,” Messersmith said.
The event is open to anybody who shares in its mission, she said.
“This isn’t just for cattlemen,” Messersmith said. “People are always surprised by how much there is to do and how much entertainment is included. This is more than a single night, it’s a full experience.”
