Arapahoe, Nebraska – On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at approximately 10:02
p.m., the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 500 block of Chestnut Street
(U.S. Highway 6) in Arapahoe, Nebraska, following a report of multiple downed power
poles. The incident resulted in a traffic blockage on the highway and a localized power
outage affecting the surrounding area.
An unknown vehicle struck multiple power poles along the roadway, causing them to fall
into the highway. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without reporting the incident.
The investigation is currently ongoing. Deputies are actively canvassing the area for
surveillance footage in an effort to identify the responsible vehicle and driver. No suspect
has been identified or apprehended at this time.
When identified, the responsible party may face charges of Felony Criminal Mischief and
Failure to Report an Accident.
