Grand Island — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has named Eric Klein as the new District 4 Engineer. Klein succeeds Wes Wahlgren, who served as the District 4
Engineer for 21 years.

District 4 includes 17 counties in south-central Nebraska.
Wahlgren will retire from the NDOT in June, concluding a 37-year career. Wahlgren started as a Bridge Inspection Engineer in 1989 before serving as a Project Manager in NDOT’s District 1 office in Lincoln.
In 2001, Wahlgren was promoted to Assistant Construction Engineer in District 1, and was promoted to District 4 Engineer in 2005.
Klein’s career at NDOT began in 2011 as a Construction Technician.
Klein held roles in Project Management before becoming the District 4 Project Delivery Engineer. He has served as the District 4 Construction Engineer in Grand Island since 2019.
