On May 8, 2026, at approximately 8:20 a.m., the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash located approximately 2 miles east of Arapahoe near RD 426 on Highway 6/34. The collision involved a passenger vehicle and a semi-trailer.
A westbound GMC Acadia, operated by a 32-year-old female resident of Elm Creek, Nebraska, struck the rear of a westbound semi-trailer that had slowed due to agricultural equipment in transit traveling in the same direction. Three minor children were passengers in the Acadia at the time of the collision.
Investigators believe speed and driver inattention were contributing factors in the crash. It was further determined that none of the occupants of the Acadia were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
The driver of the Acadia was transported from the scene by Arapahoe Ambulance for medical treatment. The three minor children in the Acadia sustained no reported injuries. The operator of the semi-trailer was uninjured and did not require medical attention.
The driver of the Acadia, Erica Myers, 32, of Elm Creek, Nebraska, faces potential charges including careless driving, failure to maintain a safe following distance, and failure to wear a seatbelt. Additional citations related to the unrestrained minor children in the vehicle are also anticipated.
