Lexington, Neb. — A longtime city official who has helped shape the future of Lexington is retiring.
Assistant City Manager, Dennis Burnside has been a vital part of Lexington’s growth and success for 20 years according to a city news release.
Burnside played a key role in improving infrastructure, boosting economic development, expanding housing, and strengthening public services. His efforts helped secure millions in grants, benefiting many parts of city government and community projects.
Burnside was instrumental in creating the Veterans Wall, a lasting tribute to those who served their country, and he helped plant over 500 trees across Lexington, leaving a green legacy for future generations.
Beyond his administrative work, Burnside brought joy and personality to city events with his acting, humor, and performances, making many gatherings memorable.
His tenure coincided with a period of tremendous growth, including Lexington being named Nebraska’s 2015 Showcase Community.
More than just his many accomplishments, Dennis Burnside has been a steady and dedicated public servant focused on improving the quality of life for Lexington’s residents.
As he retires, the city thanks Dennis Burnside for his leadership, professionalism, and humor. Best wishes go to Dennis and Cheryl for the years ahead.
A Business After Hours event honoring Dennis Burnside will be held at The Well (402 North Grant, Lexington) on Thursday, May 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
