Halsey, Neb. —Road maintenance work will lead to temporary closures on a portion of U.S. Forest Service Road 203 within the Nebraska National Forest’s Bessey Ranger District near Halsey.
The affected stretch runs from the intersection with Nebraska Highway 86B north to the area near the intersection of Forest Service Roads 203 and 224. Visitors can still access Whitetail Campground by using Circle Road from the west.
The temporary closures are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT while crews work to strengthen the road surface and improve long-term visitor access.
The project could continue into August 2026. Officials said all campgrounds and OHV trails will remain open, and Forest Service Road 203 will reopen outside of active construction hours.
Anyone with questions can contact the Bessey Ranger District office at 308-533-2257.
