GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island resident is facing multiple charges after authorities say he was involved in a motorcycle crash early Sunday morning.
According to court records, 46-year-old Rodney Gleason has been charged with first-offense driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, and driving while his license was under suspension.
Police were dispatched to the scene of a crash around 12:50 a.m. on May 31 after receiving reports that a motorcycle had collided with a tree that had fallen across the roadway. Officers identified the rider as Gleason and, during their investigation, reported detecting the odor of alcohol.
Authorities said Gleason participated in portions of a field sobriety evaluation but did not complete every test. A subsequent breath test allegedly indicated a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit.
A records check conducted by investigators reportedly showed Gleason’s driver’s license was suspended and that he had a prior felony conviction. During the investigation, officers located a wooden baton inside a bag attached to the motorcycle and also recovered a fixed-blade knife from Gleason’s person.
Gleason was taken into custody and booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections. During an arraignment Monday in Hall County Court, bond was set at 10 percent of $10,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 22 at 3 p.m.
