BROKEN BOW — The Custer County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday, June 9, handling claims, agreements, right-of-way applications, and county property items.
During committee reports, several supervisors discussed attending a recent NACO workshop. Supervisors said the meeting included useful information on land use, wildfire response, communications systems, and legislative updates. The board also heard that farmers’ market vouchers are again available for eligible seniors through area senior centers. The vouchers are worth $48 for the growing season, with income guidelines of $29,526 for a one-person household and $40,034 for a two-person household.
The board approved several sets of claims, including road hard surface, road fund, communications, visitors improvement, visitors promotion, deeds preservation and modernization, emergency 911 wireless, and county general claims.
Supervisors also went into the Board of Equalization and approved an exemption application for Off Broadway Apartments Incorporated, following a recommendation from the assessor. The application had been submitted on time but was misplaced.
The board then approved an interlocal cooperation agreement with the City of Sargent for the airport. The agreement is an annual item and includes $2,500.
Supervisors also approved multiple right-of-way applications for fiber projects. Great Plains Communications received approval for fiber optic work along County Road 781, about 10 miles south of Callaway, and another project along County Road 424, about 9.2 miles south of Callaway. Viaero Fiber Networks also received approval for conduit and fiber cable placement near the Custer County Fairgrounds, north and west along Memorial Drive.
The board also considered declaring county property as surplus. Items included a 2014 Western Star 4700 SF dump truck from the road department, with about 360,492 miles, and computers from the register of deeds office. The truck was discussed as needing significant repairs, with an estimated cost of $25,000 to $30,000. The board approved Resolution 19-2026 declaring the items surplus.
Monthly fee reports were also approved.
During public comment, it was noted that the county’s insurance costs went down by 9%, which board members said may be tied to safety committee efforts.
The meeting adjourned at 9:32 a.m.
The next Custer County Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on June 23rd, at 9:00 AM in the supervisors’ room on the top floor of the Custer County Courthouse. The public is invited to attend.
