Broken Bow, Neb. – The Wilkins ADP Seniors were in Broken Bow on Wednesday. After getting on the board early and maintaining a one-run lead into the fifth, a handful of defensive mistakes helped Broken Bow to a 7-3 win over Holdrege.
The Holdrege Seniors opened the game with consecutive doubles from Grayson Popple and Tristin Benson while taking advantage of a shaky start from Bow’s Kayden Record to score two runs in the first. They added another run in the third inning but couldn’t keep their offense going.
Broken Bow was able to tie the score in the fifth off of a single from Xack Lowry. He was able to give Bow their first lead of the game two batters later.
Trailing for the first time in the game, Holdrege’s defense began to crack. Fielding errors mixed with timely hitting from Broken Bow, increased the deficit to four runs in the sixth. Holdrege was unable to close that gap in the seventh and took the loss.
Broken Bow had runs batted in from Drew Ellis, Jackson Hall, Xack Lowry, and Kanzas Kellum. Caenyn Priest was efficient on the mound after replacing Record in the second inning. He allowed just two hits in four and two-thirds innings. Broken Bow improved to 5-5.
Wilkins ADP had hits from Landon VanBoening, Grayson Popple, Tristin Benson, Conner Tilson, and Nick Taylor. Chance Bailey drew three walks. Bailey was the starting pitcher for Holdrege, scattering three hits in his three and two-thirds innings while striking out three. Nick Taylor was also solid in his relief appearance, giving up only two hits.
As a team, Wilkins ADP committed seven errors on Wednesday. As a result, only three of the seven runs given up were earned runs.
Holdrege fell to 1-3 on the year and will play their home opener on Saturday. Wilkins ADP will host Loomis at 5:30 pm, and KUVR’s coverage will begin at 5:20.
