A Hamilton County man is dead following a plane crash Thursday night in central Nebraska.
According to Sheriff Jeromy McCoy, deputies were notified of the crash at approximately 9:12 p.m. on June 11 near 5th and X Roads in Hamilton County. Emergency crews from both Hamilton and York Counties responded, along with the Henderson Fire Department and Aurora Ambulance.
Authorities say the pilot, 61-year-old Rick Boardman of Henderson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to Boardman’s family. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will now lead the investigation into what caused the crash.
A preliminary report from the FAA indicates at Piper PA36 struck a tower.
Online information says Boardman had spent more than four decades in aerial application and was a past president of the National Agricultural Aviation Association.
