Two men died at the scene of a Frontier County accident late Wednesday evening. Sheriff Michael Jordan says it was reported around 9:51pm on June 17, 2026 on Highway 83 near mile marker 30 or about 13 miles north of McCook.
Preliminary investigation indicates a southbound Plymouth Sedan driven by Thomas Arden, 51, of Herndon, Kansas, crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a northbound Honda Sedan driven by Leroy Gray, 60, of North Platte, Nebraska. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene.
A passenger in the Honda Sedan, was transported to Community Hospital-McCook by McCook Fire and EMS. Restraints were used in both vehicles.
Highway 83 was shut down to all traffic at 10:00 p.m., and traffic was restored to normal flow around 1:30 a.m.
The investigation is being conducted by the Frontier County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol with assistance at the scene by the Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office, Maywood-Wellfleet Fire, Curtis Fire, McCook Fire and EMS, Red Willow Western Fire Department and Frontier County Ambulance.
