The City of Kearney is announcing funding for ten downtown improvement projects through its 2026 Downtown Rehabilitation Grant Program. The competitive program, offered in partnership with the Community Redevelopment Authority and Downtown Improvement Board, supports property owners investing in the preservation and long-term vitality of historic downtown buildings.
City officials say the grants will help fund a wide range of upgrades, including façade improvements, roof and brick repairs, window replacements, and critical infrastructure updates such as plumbing, electrical, and fire suppression systems. Energy efficiency improvements and accessibility upgrades are also included among this year’s projects, reflecting ongoing efforts to modernize downtown properties while maintaining their historic character.
Leaders say the program continues to generate strong interest each year, highlighting the commitment of local property owners to reinvest in downtown Kearney and enhance the area for businesses, residents, and visitors alike.
2026 projects receiving funds include:
➢ $16,250 to Kitts at 2001 A Avenue for fire suppression upgrades for overall building
improvement.
➢ $16,250 to Suite Child at 2304 Central Avenue for fire suppression upgrades for overall
building improvement.
➢ $15,000 to Kari Printz (Property Owner) at 2210 Central Avenue for second-floor window
renovations and façade improvements, including brickwork and an awning.
➢ $10,965 to City Auto Repair at 20 E. Railroad Street for brick tuck-pointing for
preservation of the exterior façade.
➢ $10,000 to Kearney Coin Center at 2006 – 2012 Central Avenue for electrical updates
and energy efficiency updates to the HVAC.
➢ $10,000 to Brandon Yaw at 2100 Central Avenue for the replacement of historic
windows in the upper stories.
➢ $9,217 to HomeWithin at 2210 Central Avenue for electrical upgrades, first-floor façade
improvements, including exterior windows.
➢ $5,500 to Nelson’s Furniture at 2109 Central Avenue for façade improvements, including
the second-floor windows.
➢ $5,000 to Patrick Moore (Property Owner) at 2313 Central Avenue for façade
improvements.
➢ $2,500 to Board & Bean Co. at 2123 Central Avenue, Suite 200, for ADA improvements.
