The Gosper County Sheriff’s Office has released more information on a drowning death reported at Johnson Lake earlier this week. They previously reported that they were dispatched to the dock area at Medo’s Resort around 1:00am on Monday June 22, 2026 in reference to a male subject found unresponsive in the water. Despite lifesaving efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Sheriff Joshua Richie says the deceased has been identified as a 76-year-old Mark Luebke of Johnson Lake. An autopsy was completed and no foul play suspected.
The Gosper County Sheriff’s Office extended its sincere appreciation to Johnson Lake EMS, Elwood EMS, and Nebraska Game and Parks for their prompt response and assistance.
