A 30-year-old Indianapolis, Indiana man has entered pleas in connection with a fatal crash that occurred December 8, 2025, near Highway 10 and Fort Kearney Road, about 10 miles southeast of Kearney.
Authorities say a pickup driven by Cory A. Rady was traveling eastbound on the 50-A Link, also known as Fort Kearney Road, when it collided with a northbound SUV at the Highway 10 intersection around 7:32 a.m. The SUV’s driver, 45-year-old Saul Barboza Montano of Minden, was pronounced dead at the scene.
During a plea hearing held Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in Kearney County District Court, Rady appeared by video and entered no contest pleas to misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide, a reduced charge from felony motor vehicle homicide, and to a stop sign violation. A third charge of reckless driving was dismissed as part of the plea agreement. District Judge Timothy Hoeft set sentencing for September 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in Kearney County District Court.
An affidavit filed by the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office indicates Rady told investigators he had been on a conference call and looked down to mute it before entering the intersection, where the collision occurred. Witnesses reported the pickup failed to stop at the stop sign and showed no indication of slowing prior to the crash.
The crash was investigated by the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol, the Minden Volunteer Fire Department, Good Samaritan Hospital and EMS, and the Kearney County Attorney’s Office.
