Grand Island, Neb. — A Sunday evening assault that left a Grand Island man with severe injuries has taken a turn for the worse.
The victim, 41 year old Matthew Bishop, has died. Organ donation took place early this morning.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday July 10.
Later this morning (Thursday), there will be a meeting between Grand Island Police Department (GIPD) Investigators and the Hall County Attorney to discuss the case and determine if the charges for the two suspects will be amended.
The incident took place in the 100 block of W. 3rd St. in downtown Grand Island.
Police arrived shortly before 11:15 p.m. and found Bishop unresponsive in the middle of the street. An ambulance took him to CHI St. Francis Emergency Room. He was later moved to CHI Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha for more care. He was placed on a ventilator with severe injuries.
Police found two local men who fought with the victim and left him in the road. On Tuesday afternoon, July 7, officers arrested Jesus A. Reyes and Angel G. Vega. Both are 23 and from Grand Island. They are in the Hall County Department of Corrections on 1st Degree Assault charges.
