More than $25,000 in grants were given out by the Sherman County Community Foundation to local fire and rescue districts.
$15,000 was granted to the Litchfield Rural Fire District for two sets of self-contained breathing apparatus gear for its firefighters. The Hazard Fire Department received $7,000 for a fire suppression skid and to replace leaky fire hose nozzles.
Two grants were awarded to the Loup City Fire Department. A $2,175 grant was used to replace batteries for hydraulic tools used in extraction at fire and accident scenes. An additional $1,813 grant will help the department purchase a set of new ambulance radios.
Donations from the Joe and Clara Janulewicz Fund, the Frank and Vernie Damratowski Fund, and the 2025 Good Life Gala provided funds for the grants.
The Sherman County Community Foundation was founded in 1990, working to enhance the quality of life for all citizens in Sherman County.
