A two-vehicle crash over the weekend in Merrick County left several people injured
The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened on Saturday, August 1st on Highway 30 and 3rd road.
They say a 2023 Jeep was traveling westbound on Highway 30 when a 1998 Chevrolet pickup traveling north on 3rd road failed to stop a stop sign, colliding with the Jeep which had three passengers.
The driver of the Jeep was taken to Grand Island for serious injuries before being life-flighted to another medical facility in Omaha.
The passengers in the Jeep were treated for minor injuries and released.
Authorities say seatbelts were in use by all occupants of the Jeep.
They say the driver of pickup, identified as 40-year-old Jasper Scheer, was transported to Grand Island for non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities believe alcohol use was suspected by Scheer and is believed to be a contributing factor in the accident.
They also say Scheer was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
