BROKEN BOW, Neb. — Local law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel will trade their uniforms for softball jerseys Saturday during a charity game benefiting the Forever Pink Foundation.
The law enforcement-versus-EMS matchup begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Paul Brown Field in Broken Bow. Admission will be accepted through a freewill donation, and concessions will be available.
Broken Bow police officers Wyatt Woodward and Jose Ambres said the event will feature an unconventional, entertainment-focused format inspired by the Savannah Bananas.
“We want the crowd involved,” Woodward said. “We’re going to have a good time — dancing, jokes. It’s not your normal softball game.”
Activities and entertainment are planned between innings to keep spectators involved throughout the evening.
The fundraiser is part of the Pink Patch Project, a collaborative effort involving the Broken Bow Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Kearney Police Department and Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office. Money raised through the project is donated to the Forever Pink Foundation, which assists people affected by breast cancer.
Ambres said he and Woodward took over as Broken Bow’s Pink Patch Project representatives this year and developed the softball game as a new way to promote the cause.
“We came up with the idea randomly, and then we let everybody know at the meeting,” Ambres said. “They all seemed to like the idea, so we kind of got put in charge of that.”
The law enforcement roster will include every Broken Bow police officer, along with participants from the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office and Kearney Police Department. Broken Bow-area EMS personnel will be joined by members of a Kearney ambulance service on the opposing team.
Organizers said the family-friendly event is intended to provide an entertaining evening while bringing the community together in support of the Pink Patch Project.
No advance tickets are required. Gates open for the 7 p.m. game Saturday at Paul Brown Field.
