Gov. Jim Pillen signed an executive order Wednesday morning in North Platte, establishing a task for to study emergency radio systems across the state. The signing took place in a North Platte fire station among first responders in the area. Pillen said the task force has a clear charge…to conduct a completed top to bottom of audit of our entire state radio ecosystem.
The action comes after observations about signal gaps and inability for firefighters to communicate among other departments during the Morrill and Cottonwood fires. Pillen said he wants the men and women involved in responding to be able to do their jobs as safely as they can and that they have all the tools needed in their tool kits.
The task force will return their report to the Governor in 60 days.
