Adriano put down three kills during the next stretch as Nebraska went up 10-4 and forced a USC timeout. The Huskers held a 14-8 lead, and the Trojans never got within six the rest of the way. Murray sparked a 4-0 run with a kill and then served three consecutive points to make it 21-10. Sigler’s kill brought the Big Red to set point, while USC fought off the first set point with a kill until a service error to put an end to the opening set. Adriano led the Huskers with six kills, Murray added five, and Jackson chipped in three. Nebraska totaled 19 kills and two blocks with just three errors, while USC managed nine kills and didn’t record a block in the set.
Set 2: The Huskers took a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 win in the second set, pulling away after six early ties. USC held its only lead at 3-2, and the set was knotted at six before Nebraska won six of the next seven points, including back-to-back Jackson kills with Mauch serving, to go up 12-7. Keoni Williams matched Jackson with a team-best four kills in the set, including one that pushed the lead to 19-13 and forced a USC timeout. Mauch then served the final three points of a 4-0 run, including an ace, before Jackson’s solo block brought up set point at 24-15. The Huskers totaled 17 kills, four blocks and an ace, while USC posted 10 kills and committed three service errors.
Set 3: USC kept it close in the early portion of the set, trimming the Husker lead to 8-7 on a Murray attacking error. However, Nebraska took control of the set with a 12-2 run to take a 20-9 lead, capped off with an ace from Sigler. The Huskers overpowered the Trojans in the third, holding the visitors to a -.029 hitting clip and just six kills. The Big Red scored three straight points to cap off the sweep.
