A North Platte man escaped with minor injuries after a feed truck rollover Wednesday morning west of Hershey.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched at about 6:41 a.m. to Highway 30 near Game Trail Road on a report of a single-vehicle rollover crash with the driver trapped inside. Firefighters from the Hershey and Sutherland volunteer fire departments responded and were able to free the driver using minimal extrication equipment.
Authorities identified the driver as 62-year-old Jose Cifuentes, an employee of Olsen’s Feedlot. Investigators say Cifuentes was driving a loaded feed truck westbound on Highway 30 when a deer entered the roadway. Witnesses and Cifuentes reported he swerved to avoid the animal, lost control of the truck, and rolled into the north ditch, where the vehicle came to rest on its roof.
Cifuentes was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Al’s Towing removed the truck, and Olsen’s Feedlot is expected to clean up spilled feed from the ditch. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
