A teenage driver and a juvenile passenger escaped serious injury after a rollover crash Friday evening near JC Park in North Platte. Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 6:17 p.m. on October 30 after receiving a cell phone crash detection alert in the 300 block of South Maloney Drive. When deputies arrived, they found a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado on its side against a power pole.
Investigators said the 16-year-old driver told deputies he was not feeling well and was trying to get home to Lake Maloney when the crash occurred. Evidence at the scene indicates the pickup was traveling well above the posted 35 mile-per-hour speed limit before leaving the roadway. The truck crossed a ditch and a golf cart and walking path before rolling multiple times and coming to rest against the pole. Dawson Public Power and the North Platte Fire Department responded to the scene. Both occupants were evaluated and released without serious injuries.
