CUSTER COUNTY – Approximately 800 Election Day ballots remain to be counted in Custer County following greater than expected voter turnout during the November 3, 2026 General Election.
According to a press release issued by the Custer County Clerk, Kelly Jacobsen, the Custer County election officials used photocopied ballots to ensure every eligible voter could cast a ballot after the county experienced higher than expected turnout. Jacobsen said using photocopied ballots is standard practice in these situations.
Additional official ballots are being printed by Election Systems & Software (ES&S). Once the ballots arrive, a bipartisan team will securely transfer votes from the photocopied ballots onto official ballots before adding them to the current vote totals.
“Election officials said they remain committed to maintaining a transparent, accurate and secure counting process,” Jacobsen said.
Further updates on vote tabulation will be provided as additional ballots are processed.
