Maywood Public Schools Superintendent Mark Bejot was found not guilty of Intentional Child Abuse and False Reporting. A two-day jury trial in Frontier County District Court came to an end late Tuesday afternoon as as jury of 6 women and 6 men deliberated about an hour before turning their decision finding Bejot not guilty of Intentional Child Abuse and False Reporting.
District Judge Patrick Heng presided over the trial held in the newly renovated courtroom of the Frontier County Courthouse in Stockville. The prosecution maintained a 12-year-old student suffered mental health issues following a confrontation with Bejot last October. Among the arguments of the defense was that if there were such mental health consequences, why didn’t the student seek or receive counseling to deal with the issues.
The student continues to attend Maywood Schools and Superintendent Bejot was temporarily removed from his job when charges were filed last Fall but, he was reinstated by the Board of Education in December and has continued in that role since.
