The Nebraska Beef Council is teaming up with League One Volleyball (LOVB) to highlight the nutritional benefits of beef, particularly for female athletes.
Adam Wegner, the council’s director of marketing, said the partnership connects beef’s nutrition with athletic performance.
“Studies have shown upwards of 60 percent of female athletes are iron deficient,” Wegner said. “Iron is crucial for transporting oxygen to the muscles, and low levels can cause fatigue, reduced endurance, and poor recovery. Beef is a great source of iron… a natural food that can assist these female athletes in maintaining their iron levels as they train.”
During a recent LOVB Nebraska game, beef was featured throughout the arena, including digital signage, jumbotron videos about beef nutrition, and a “flex cam” activation where fans could flex their muscles to show how they’re powered by beef. Wegner said the council hopes the partnership will expand next season and reach young athletes through the LOVB junior clubs.
BEEFING UP FOR BEEF MONTH
In addition to the partnership, the council is gearing up for the sixth annual Nebraska Beef Passport, which encourages consumers to explore restaurants and meat shops across the state. Wegner said the program showcases the variety of beef products available, from high-end steakhouses to small-town cafes and even vending machines.
“The beef passport really provides that roadmap for consumers to get out there and enjoy great beef that’s offered across the state, and maybe visit a community that they’ve never been to before,” he said.
This year’s passport will include over 30 restaurant locations, 19 meat processors and 10 specialty meat shops.
