This year’s Cattlemen’s Ball art show is bringing together regional artists, live demonstrations and one of a kind pieces, all while supporting cancer research and showcasing Nebraska creativity.
The art tent, scheduled for June 5 – 6 in Cozad, will feature artists displaying and selling their work directly to attendees, with some creating pieces live during the event.
“What I’m doing is reaching out to artists, and they will be physically at the Cattlemen’s Ball art tent….and their artwork will be on display there for sale to participants,” Bonnie Hubbard, art tent chairman said.
The show will include a mix of western, agricultural and more contemporary styles, reflecting the region’s roots while also highlighting a creative community.
Hubbard said the event is still seeking additional artists, with a goal of reaching 20 participants. Currently, 16 artists committed.
“If there are artists out there listening…I definitely would love for them to contact me,” Hubbard said. “I’d be happy to work with them and see if maybe we’re a match.”

The art tent will be open from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Friday, June 5, and 9:00am to 4:00pm Saturday, June 6, with a larger showing planned for Saturday. In addition to browsing artwork, attendees can participate in a wine tasting offered inside the tent.
Artists will sell their own work and keep the proceeds, while some artists donate pieces to be auctioned to benefit the event’s primary cause.
“Artists that donate their pieces to the auction will go towards raising funds for the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha,” Hubbard said.
One featured artist, John Groesser, will create a live painting during the Cattlemen’s Ball, with the finished piece also going up for bid.
Hubbard says the art show adds another dimension to the Cattlemen’s Ball, while also providing artists with exposure and opportunity.
Beyond the art, the Cattlemen’s Ball serves a dual purpose, raising money for cancer research while supporting local communities.
“The Ball is used to raise money for cancer research…and 10% comes back to the communities and supports different health and wellness initiatives,” Hubbard said.
Tickets for Cattlemen’s Ball must be purchased in advance online or at designated locations, as they will not be available at the gate. Hubbard encourages early purchase, as the event may sell out.
With a wide range of artistic styles from jewelry and photography to whimsical and traditional paintings, Hubbard says the show is designed to appeal to a broad audience.
“I really hope the way that we’ve kind of curated this art show is going to be kind of for everyone,” Hubbard said. “Hopefully, everybody is going to find something there that they love.”
