More than 10 new wildfires were reported across Nebraska since Wednesday, with several still not fully contained as of Thursday morning.
According to Watch Duty, at least 10 active fires remained below 50% containment as of Thursday morning, along with one smaller, less intense fire.
The Pressey Fire south of Broken Bow has grown significantly, burning an estimated 6,000 acres. Officials say strong winds and dry conditions pushed the fire rapidly to the north and northwest. The blaze split into two head fires at its peak, traveling about 12 miles north and stretching roughly 3 miles wide, while rugged terrain made suppression efforts difficult.
Another major blaze, the Andrews Fire west of Valentine, is estimated at about 2,500 acres.
Additional fires have been reported south of O’Neill, east of Niobrara, and across a corridor from Arthur County to Cherry County.
Crews continue working to contain the fires as dry conditions persist statewide.
