Komorebino Omoide is returning to defend his title in the $100,000 Bosselman Pump and Pantry/Gus Fonner Stakes Saturday, April 25 at Fonner Park.
Komorebino Omoide, won last year’s 1 1-16th mile Bosselman by 11 3-4th lengths. He was bred in Japan and is trained by Robertino Diodoro. Perry Martin (who co-owned 2023 Hall of Fame inductee California Chrome) owns Komorebino Omoide.
“It’s nice to see that we have a number of owners who aren’t afraid to run their horse against Komorebino Omoide,” Fonner Park CEO Chris Kotulak said. “It’s a horse race, with a $100,000 on the line. There aren’t that many stakes races nowadays with large fields, so that’s another tribute to the tradition and dedication of Fonner Park to this race.”
Komorebino Omoide is the morning-line favorite at 4-5. Inexorable, the morning-line second-favorite was a late nomination and his owners paid a $1,500 supplemental fee to enter the race. He was claimed for $50,000 at Keeneland in an April 15th race. Local trainer Schuyler Condon will tighten the girth.
Zatara, trained by Jon Arnett, is 6-1 on the morning-line with Cornishman, the winner of the Grade 3 Cornhusker Handicap last summer at Prairie Meadows, is tabbed at 8-1. Thunders Rocknroll, at 10-1, is a six-year-old front-running mare who has won five of her last seven races including two stake races.
Malibu S S, winner of the Dowd Mile April 14, which serves as the local prep race, was installed at 12-1. Sprint Out Pass, a fast-closing second in the Dowd and trained by Kelli Martinez, is 15-1 along with Spenard, a ship-in from Turf Paradise trained by Dan MacFarlane.
Forced Ranking, also trained by Schuler Condon, rounds out the field at 20-1.
The race will go as the 9th on the card with a local post time of 5:40 PM. The $50,000 Elite Sprint Cup is an undercard 6 ½ furlong stakes race that will go as the 8th race.
