LINCOLN, — As expected the University of Nebraska regents on Friday approved a renovation plan for Memorial Stadium that is aimed to make the storied venue more accessible to fans and give the athletic department more ways to increase revenue. The ambitious project will be paid for with a mix of $250 million in donation support and $350 million in private bond financing. The school hopes the project will be completed in time for the 2028 football season.
Nebraska has played at Memorial Stadium since 1923 and every game has been a sellout since the 1962 season which is an NCAA record of 410 straight games. When renovated Memorial Stadium will have seating for 80,000 fans with 20,000 new chairback seats available.
The University is also looking to host more concerts and other events at the stadium which could also increase revenues to help pay for the project.
