BROKEN BOW — A single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday afternoon is under investigation, with alcohol believed to be a factor.
According to an incident report from the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 2:53 p.m. April 26 to the area of Road 441 and Memorial Drive, just outside Broken Bow, for a property damage accident.
Upon arrival, Deputy Marty Neilan observed a vehicle resting on its driver’s side, with the driver standing outside. The driver, identified as Taylor John Foss, 36, of Broken Bow, reportedly showed signs of impairment, including red, watery eyes, difficulty maintaining balance, and the odor of alcohol.
According to the report, Foss admitted to drinking and indicated he expected to receive a DUI.
Investigators determined the vehicle had been traveling north on Memorial Drive when it left the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck the slope near Road 441. The vehicle then became airborne, crossed the road, landed in a ditch, went airborne again off a culvert, and ultimately rolled before coming to rest on its side.
Foss was transported to Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center for evaluation. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Trumbull Towing and Repair of Callaway.
Authorities say a full Nebraska Department of Transportation crash report will be completed, and a subpoena for medical records has been requested. The investigation remains ongoing.
