Rep. Adrian Smith says it’s time to unleash American energy with E15
Congressman Smith is part of an effort to adopt year-round, nationwide E15. Smith says it’ll be a boost to farmers, but he says the real win is for consumers.
” Fact of the matter is, we need relief at the pump right now. I think most Americans fully realize that E15 is an option, not a mandate, but as an option can help deliver relief at the pump. You know, Senator Fisher and I have been working on this for some time,” Smith said. “We’re making calls as we speak and rounding up support for this.”
The congressman tells us the latest effort is to include it as an amendment to the farm bill as it comes up for debate this week.
“Having weak prices right now cost taxpayers in different ways and so on. We can have a stronger market for a demand for corn, for example. That’s a win win. But ultimately, consumers driving the bus on this with relief at the pump,” Smith told the Rural Radio Network.
Ethanol supporters say the legislation would also address concerns over exemptions to some refineries.
