The Broken Bow City Council formally appointed Brycen Woodward of Broken Bow as a new police officer, with Police Chief Chris Anderson administering the oath of office during Tuesday’s meeting.
Woodward was sworn in before the council, pledging to “…support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Nebraska … and faithfully and impartially perform the duties of the office of a police officer…”
Following the oath, council members welcomed him to the department. Woodward said becoming a police officer has been a personal goal, while having friends and family wearing the badge.
Leading up to this day, Woodward has spent time as a nuisance officer and participating in several police ride-alongs. From now leading into August Woodward will continue gaining experience, including completing required hours for certification with plans to attend the police academy in August.
“Because of my age, I’m too young to go right now, but in August I will go to the academy…I have to be 21 coming out,” he said.
Woodward said he is most looking forward to beginning his career and making an impact in the community.
“It has been a dream of mine, so I’m excited to get out there,” Woodward said.
