Kearney — Kearney Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) was paged to a structure fire shortly after 1:00 a.m. Thursday at Clarion Inn & Suites, 301 2nd Avenue in Kearney.
The first arriving engine declared a working fire after observing smoke coming from the awning over the main entrance of the hotel.
KVFD crews accessed the roof and initiated a fire attack, with their main focus on the area above the entry way and the void spaces within.
The fire was brought under control at 2:30 a.m. with no injuries reported.
The hotel sustained substantial fire damage to the awning over the main entrance of the hotel.
There were no reports of any fire or smoke damage in the main building of the hotel.
The Nebraska State Fire Marshal was requested to assist with the origin and cause investigation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is believed to be accidental and electrical in nature.
Other agencies that assisted at the scene included the Kearney Police Department, CHI Good Samaritan EMS, NPPD & Northwestern Energy.
