Kearney High girls soccer qualified for the third straight time on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win over the Papillion – La Vista Monarchs in the A-3 District final in Kearney. The Bearcats also completed an undefeated home record while punching their ticket to Morrison Stadium.
Kearney High dominated offensively for a majority of the first half, and their aggression paid off with a corner kick in the 19th minute. With a crowd in the goal area, Addie Snyder’s header would put Kearney ahead. Reese Holscher, who assisted the 19th minute goal, added the insurance goal in the 39th minute.
Kearney Girls Soccer head coach Lerrin Rowe gave all credit to her senior core postgame.
Despite saves in the 63rd, 66th, and 68th minute from goalkeeper Maylin Pohl, an own goal ruined a potential clean sheet in in the final 90 seconds.
Kearney will enter the state tournament with a record of 16-2
The Kearney High boys play Lincoln Southwest on Thursday in the A-4 District Semifinals. The Bearcats defeated Omaha Bryan 2-1 on Monday in the opening round.
