At approximately 10:00 PM on Wednesday, the City of Arapahoe experienced a brief power outage. Just minutes later, Arapahoe Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the area of Nebraska Avenue and 6th Street for reports of down power poles and power lines laying across the highway.
Upon arrival, firefighters located two down power poles with energized power lines laying in the roadway. Crews immediately established traffic control and requested assistance from the Nebraska Department of Roads, Furnas County Sheriff’s Office, City of Arapahoe Utility Department, and Nebraska Public Power District.
Due to the dangers associated with energized power lines, the area remained closed until utility crews could safely secure the scene. The incident was brought under control and all crews cleared the scene at approximately 11:45 PM.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation at this time.
