A jury trial has been scheduled in Dawson County District Court for the First Degree Murder case involving 34‑year‑old Aristh Rodriguez‑Linares. Rodriguez‑Linares is charged in connection with the Jan. 21, 2025 shooting death of 40‑year‑old Maykel Farinas Carballo, who was found dead inside a vehicle on Cypress Lane in Lexington. He also faces two weapons-related charges.
Dawson County District Judge Chawnta Durham set the 10‑day jury trial to begin Aug. 3, 2026, at 9 a.m. During a hearing Monday, attorneys also submitted 16 pretrial motions, eight of which were resolved. The remaining motions will be addressed at a later hearing. The case is being prosecuted by the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office, while the Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy represents the defense.

According to court records, Lexington Police were called to a Cypress Lane residence for a reported disturbance. Officers found Carballo deceased inside a vehicle upon arrival. Investigators said both Carballo and Rodriguez‑Linares had been involved in a disagreement, prompting the victim to come to the residence.
Police reports indicate a witness heard gunshots and saw Rodriguez‑Linares holding a handgun near the area where the victim and vehicle were located. Court records state Rodriguez‑Linares told the witness to call police and placed the gun on a couch before officers arrived. He was taken into custody and has remained in the Dawson County Jail since his arrest.
