COZAD, NE – Justin Morris of Cozad donated 66 percent of his liver to fellow Cozadian Kyle Rimpley on April 6th at Mayo Clinic.
After seeing back in January that Rimpley was needing a liver transplant and qualified for a living donor, both Justin and his wife Karen applied to be tested as a potential match. Justin’s application was the first to be processed and ended up being a match.
By Easter Weekend, Justin and Karen went to Mayo Clinic for Justin to donate 66% of his liver that following Monday, April 6th. Justin talks about how the day of surgery went.
Doctors told Justin he would be back to normal, and his liver fully regenerated within 4 to 6 months from the surgery.
Karen talks about her experience on surgery day.
Despite the long process from start to finish, recovery, and all the unknowns… this is what both Justin and Karen said when asked if they would do it all over again if the opportunity presented itself.
Karen talks about the emotions leading up to the surgery for her.
