KBEAR 92.3 is welcoming Jaylea Pope of Shelton, as the 2026 summer intern, bringing additional communications experience to the station and the Nebraska Rural Radio Association team.
Pope, a student at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, said her interest in radio comes from the opportunity to combine her passions for agriculture and communications while sharing stories from rural communities.
“I am excited to interact with the KBEAR listeners this summer and get to know the communities we serve,” she said.
This is Pope’s second experience working with the Association. Last summer, she interned with the Rural Radio Network team, based out of Lincoln. While in that role she helped produce agricultural broadcasting content and completed a “Meet the Broadcasters” project that remains available on the network’s website.
Pope said a previous experience helping with coverage at Husker Harvest Days helped inspire her to return for another summer with the Nebraska Rural Radio Association.
“After a great experience last summer with the Rural Radio Network crew, I was helping with Husker Harvest Days coverage, and after talking with Adam about the opportunity, I knew this would be a great way to explore my growing interest in radio and broadcasting,” Pope said.
At UNL, Pope is pursuing a double major in agricultural communications and animal science while also a minor in the Krutsinger Beef Industry Scholars Program. She is expected to graduate in December 2026.
During her time in college, Pope has been involved in several organizations and judging teams, including serving as a State FFA Officer and competing on the Livestock Judging Team, Meat Judging Team and Meat Animal Evaluation Team.
Outside of school and work, Pope enjoys doing photography, reading, working with livestock, coaching livestock judging teams, and traveling to judge livestock shows.
