CUSTER COUNTY, NE- A Broken Bow woman remains in custody following a court appearance Monday in Custer County Court on a felony drug charge.
Carolyn R. Comeau, 31, appeared before the court on June 1 in connection with a charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute amphetamine, a Class II felony. The criminal complaint leading to the case was filed on May 26.
Comeau was represented by attorney Katheryn Harouff of St. Paul, who appeared remotely. During the hearing, Judge Tami Schendt denied a request to reduce Comeau’s bond, which remains set at $75,000 with a 10 percent provision. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 15. Following the hearing, Comeau was returned to the custody of the Custer County Sheriff’s Office.
In a separate case, 18-year-old Lane M. Stewart of Broken Bow made his initial court appearance on four charges tied to an incident authorities allege occurred on May 8.
Stewart is charged with cruel mistreatment of an animal, a Class IIIA felony. He also faces three misdemeanor counts, including criminal mischief, game abandonment or needless waste, and a hunting and fishing regulation violation.
A preliminary hearing in Stewart’s case has been set for July 6 at 2:30 p.m.
