Highway 30 was closed in both directions Monday afternoon east of Lexington near the Evergreen Cemetery, due to a grain spillage.
Dawson County Sheriff Mark Montgomery says it occurred around noon on Monday involving a semi hauling distiller’s grains. He says the driver made an abrupt stop due to a vehicle in front of it and much of the distiller’s grain contents spilled onto the roadway. The semi remained upright.
Sheriff Montgomery expressed his appreciation from City of Cozad for street sweeper and Overton Volunteer Fire Department for assisting with traffic control at the scene. Lexington Volunteer Fire Department then washed off the road.
Highway 30 was re-opened to traffic shortly before 3:30pm Monday.
