LEXINGTON – The Heartland Chevrolet Lexington junior legion baseball team was dominant at home Monday night with a 15-0 win in three innings over Broken Bow.
Things started out well on the mound for Kaden Barkmeier for Lexington, striking out three batters in the first, two of them looking and did not allow a two out walk to come around and score. Lexington then scored five runs in the bottom of the first after a couple of errors and six free bases given up by Broken Bow starting pitcher Aiden Page.
In the second, Lexington had the bases loaded and one out, but Broken Bow pitcher Zakkary Miller was able to limit the damage with a strikeout and a groundout and kept the Lexington lead at six.
Barkmeier went three up three down in the top of the third before Lexington erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the third to end the game. Lexington had two hits in the inning, a single to lead things off from Jared Hernandez and then an RBI double for Toran Kjar which plated the 15th run and ended the game. Six walks, two hit by pitches and a couple wild pitches helped Lexington get the runs they needed to end the game.
Barkmeier threw a three inning no hitter for Lexington, striking out five and walking just three to get the win. Kjar went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Hernandez had the other hit for Lexington going 1-2 with an RBI and two runs. Nine different players scored a run for Lexington tonight. Both Page and Cole Helleberg walked once for Broken Bow.
Lexington is now 4-4 on the season while Broken Bow falls to 0-4. Our next broadcast of legion baseball will be on Friday night as Lexington welcomes in Gothenburg, pregame at 6:50 PM on KAMI country.
