A Gothenburg man is facing multiple felony charges after a reported disturbance early June 9, 2026 in Gothenburg. Authorities say 24-year-old Joshua Haruo was arrested around 7:40 a.m. following a call to a residence along Lakeview Drive, where a man reported being approached aggressively by Haruo, who was allegedly armed with an ice pick-style weapon. Investigators say Haruo attempted to stab the victim’s dog before confronting the man and challenging him to fight. The victim contacted law enforcement, and Haruo fled the area before deputies later located him at a nearby residence. He was taken into custody after a struggle.
During the transport to Dawson County Jail, authorities say Haruo became combative, repeatedly kicking the interior of the patrol vehicle and yelling at Dawson County Sheriff’s Deputies. Deputies pulled over along Highway 30 east of Gothenburg to restrain him, where he allegedly continued to resist, threatened officers, and spat at law enforcement, prompting the use of a spit hood. Investigators say Haruo also headbutted a deputy and caused injury to another during efforts to apply leg shackles. He was eventually secured in a transport van and taken to jail, where officials say he remained belligerent and was placed in a restraint chair.
Haruo was arraigned in Dawson County Court Wednesday with multiple offenses including terroristic threats, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, assault on an officer, and resisting arrest.
County Judge Jeffrey Wightman set bond at 10% of $100,000 and scheduled preliminary hearing for June 23, 2026 at 11:00am in the Dawson County Courtroom.
