A man from McCook is dead following a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on Highway 83. The Nebraska State Patrol says the crash happened around 6:12 a.m. near mile marker 45. Investigators say a Chevrolet Express traveling northbound crossed the center line into the southbound lane, then crested a hill and collided with a Nebraska Department of Transportation pickup.
The truck driver was taken to Great Plains Health in North Platte with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the van, 41-year-old Trace Clapp of McCook, was pronounced dead at the scene.
NSP was assisted by the Frontier County Sheriff’s Department, Red Willow County Sheriff’s Department, Frontier County Attorney, NDOT, Miller Towing and Maywood and Curtis Fire Departments. The crash investigation is still ongoing.
