GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend and was later found with cocaine and cash.
David Matias Garcia, 25, of Grand Island, has been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, enhanced felony third-degree assault, possession of money in violation of drug statutes, and possession of drug paraphernalia, which is listed as an infraction.
According to a police probable cause statement, officers were called to a home in the 2100 block of West Division Street around 3:43 a.m. on June 10. Garcia’s 24-year-old girlfriend told police he had grabbed her by the arm during an assault. Officers reported seeing three bruises on her arm. The woman was 19 weeks pregnant at the time.
The woman also told investigators that Garcia had been selling cocaine. Police later found 37.5 grams of cocaine and $3,000 in cash at the location.
Garcia is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. on July 16. His bond was set at $250,000.
